I Am The Proud Parent (Take Two)...

of a US soldier.

Well, I now have son number two in the Army. He is due to ship out on 10/25. Both are Infantry Airborne and both will be going through basic at Ft. Benning, GA. I must tell you all I have mixed feelings. On the one hand I am the proudest dad alive of my sons wanting to serve our great country. On the other hand I don't want them to be in harm's way. I am not concerned about them making the grade, they have the backbone and will and the temperment to do that easily. They both got the maximum bonus along with a couple of ranks due to their college credits. Hopefully they will continue their education and become officers, but I don't see that happening right away. In their youthful enthusiasm they are more interested in the neat toys they will get to play with.

I will keep everyone updated on how they progress and in the mean time, please keep them both, and all of our men and women in the armed forces in your thoughts and prayers.

I have ambiguant feelings about this myself. My youngest son is now 16. In less than a year he will be old enough to join the U S armed services, with my permission.

I don't think he has any intention to do that, but if he decides to, I will face a gut wrenching decision.

I am afraid of losing him in battle. Oh, I know that his odds are that of survival, he might not even see any combat if he joins.

The only comfort I can cling to in the off chance that I ever do lose him in battle, would be that he dies fighting for my freedom.

Therefore, if he ever asks me if he can join, I will reluctantly say yes, and be proud.

You are in good company my friend! Mine didnt have a choice he was enlisted in the Army before 9-11. He served proudly and hororably during Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. And after what he saw being so close to the Pentagon during 9-11 he wouldnt have had it any other way. He went through AIT in Ft. Eustis, VA. He went through Ft. Benning for Basic also. Tell Them (Your sons) from me and my son "Go Shadow Company and Alpha Company"!!!! Dont get me wrong the entire time he was in Iraq/Kuwait it was a nail biter and I was constantly sick but I knew if anything happened to him it was for the good of THIS Country!! Dont let ANYONE tell you any different. If you are old enough to remember Saddam and his shit ass regime, you will know what I am talking about. Not many do, or maybe choose not to, and there will be those that will try constantly to change yours and your sons mind. Dont let them. Keep in mind the ONLY way to Peace for THIS Country and the World is to spread Peace everywhere. Starting where they need it the most (The Middle East). Mine will be returning soon also, and if you ever need anyone to talk to I am here for you. Military Parents are very special people and make the Ultimate Sacrifice that no one else understands. Feel free to e-mail me if the need fits. I have been there and done ALL that. I know what you are about to go through. Remember your sons CHOSE to serve!!!! And God Bless Them For Doing So!!! My thoughts and prayers are with them always!!!! And you and your wife as well..God Bless those that have a choice and freely believe in this mission!!!
Hooooooooooorahhhhhh!!!!!

Garza and Marie,

God bless your sons. May their noble service never be taken lightly by us and our future generations who stand to benefit from it. And God bless the parents and family members; may the rest of the country support you, who support them. Thank you for your own sacrifices.
